Gaining back business confidence with a Withdrawal Agreement
Airbus statement illustrates the importance of a Brexit deal for MNCs. For many businesses, having a deal is better than having no deal because it would minimize operational and regulatory changes. Businesses need to be informed of a deal for a period prior to Brexit so that they can form strategic approaches to the new regime. A no-deal scenario, on the other hand, would place them into a passive situation where they don't have enough information to make changes to their businesses. Airbus currently employs 14,000 people in the UK. If it decides to divert its investment to other EU countries, the people, both high and low-skilled, would lose their jobs. Airbus is taking part in the Galileo space navigation project, an Europe-exclusive space program that only allows EU nationals to work in. As a result of Brexit, it has to move 80 engineering jobs to EU to adhere to the regulations. When TM claimed to bring the jobs back to UK citizens, she forgot that many British people are working for EU firms as well.
